Toning Up Merthyr

The Gellideg Foundation is a fantastic initiative set up by 6 local mothers in 1998. They focus their efforts around the health and the environment of the Gellideg estate and residents. Bouchard & Jones felt that they could help by donating some money to this worthy cause. One of the directors of Bouchard & Jones, Antony Jones, said "supporting local initiatives such as this can make a massive difference to the local residents, we are proud to be part of the project". Bouchard & Jones have been working with Merthyr Valleys Homes over the past 12 months to upgrade central heating systems in the tenants homes, many of these homes are on the Gellideg Estate.

The Foundation offers lots of services such as after school clubs, a fitness centre and youth projects. Cerys Rogers from the Gellideg Foundation said "donations such as these get used for things like training a local person with the hope that they will then go on to be employed to help run the fitness centre." The long term benefits of donations can make all the difference to this project and the local people. Chris Saunders, physical activity development officer at the centre, explains that there is different training advice to suit each individual and this fitness centre will hopefully cater for lots of people on the estate and he looks forward to the centre filling up in the New Year and assisting the residents to get fit and healthy in 2010.

B & J are passionate about giving something back to the community and this seemed the perfect time to help the Foundation. When everyone begins their New Year fitness regime this donation will help towards a new opportunity for a local person.
